The Programme has a number of projects underway to improve the delivery of government services, and the social and economic outcomes for the people who live in Tāmaki now. Sitting alongside these projects is the proposed Tāmaki Development Plan, currently in draft, which sets to direct the strategies, priorities and stages of the 20 year urban regeneration. Enhancing literacy through Manaiakalani Tamaki Learning NetThe objective of this project is to raise literacy levels across all schools in Tāmaki. The goal is to provide every year 5 to 13 student with a wireless enabled laptop and the ability to access school based internet services from home and school. Through the provision of an e-learning environment the project seeks to create a pathway towards digital enablement for the wider Tāmaki community.Email project manager Pathways to careers in healthWorking with the Auckland District Health Board, a partner of the Tāmaki Transformation Programme, this project sets to create a pathway for Tāmaki residents to become qualified health care professionals. Tāmaki residents, their whanau and aiga, will be supported based on their needs to ensure successful entry into a well paid job in the health sector.Email project manager Work experience for unemployed residentsWe help provide work experience for residents to improve their work skills and find out how suited they might be to different types of jobs. The Programme is working with local businesses in the area to identify their needs and liaising with Work and Income offices and Tāmaki College to match up 100 residents with work experience opportunities.Email project manager Improving children’s readiness to learnWorking with the Ministry of Education, parents, educators and community groups this project sets to increase participation in early childhood education and pre-school health checks. Ensuring facilities match the aspirations of whanau is a current known gap. A community inspired action plan is being developed to understand, and help eliminate, the barriers to participation in pre-school educational activities.Email project manager HousingHousing New Zealand Corporation’s properties in Tāmaki represent 56% of all residential housing in the area. A total of 120 state houses will be modernised by mid 2012 and construction has started to build a new 40 unit older persons complex in Kings Road. Housing New Zealand Corporation's future construction of new houses will be made in the context of the proposed Tāmaki Development Plan.Email project manager |
